Seahawk Girls Improve Record to 10-2

1/18/2013 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team split a pair of games this week, falling to Parkside, 73-60, last Friday before getting back on track with a 65-48 win over Bennett on Tuesday.

The Seahawks fell to the unbeaten Rams last week, 73-60. Makayan Alexander led Parkside with 36 points, while Decatur’s Abbey Schorr scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. On Tuesday, Decatur got back in the win column with a resounding 65-48 win over Bennett. Again, Schorr led the Seahawks with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Dayona Godwin also made a big contribution, scoring 14 points.

With the split week, the Seahawks’ record now stands at an impressive 10-2 on the season with their only losses coming to Parkside last Friday and Mardela back on December 13. Decatur had the opportunity to avenge that early season loss yesterday against Mardela in a game played too late to be included in this edition. The Seahawks will travel to Wicomico High next Tuesday.
