Seahawks Cruise Past Rams, 38-14

10/19/2012 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team cruised past host Parkside, 38-14, last weekend in a rare Saturday morning game.

Friday night lights turned into a Saturday morning romp last weekend for the Seahawks, who played their one and only day game of the season against the Rams at the Wicomico County Stadium. The win was the second straight for the Seahawks, who edged Easton last week, as Decatur improved to 4-3 on the season to keep their state playoff hopes alive.

Decatur played Bayside North powerhouse North Caroline on the road last night in a game played too late to be included in this edition. Going into that contest, the Seahawks were ranked eighth in the state Class 3A-East region with 30 total points. The top four teams in the region advance to the state tournament, and at eighth currently the Seahawks appear to be a long shot, but they are just 10 points out of the fourth spot.

They will likely need to win a few more and hope for some help from teams on the other side of the bridge. After the North Caroline game on the road last night, Decatur finishes the season at home against Wicomico and Worcester County rival Snow Hill in the traditional finale.
