Symphony Orchestra Launches New Season

BERLIN -- The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra’s 2012-2013 Season Series, “Music…the Sounds of Life”, kicks off this week with performances in Easton, Ocean Pines, and Ocean View, Del.

The symphony performed in Easton last night, Oct. 11, and follows the opening weekend with an Ocean View, Del. show at Mariner’s Bethel Church on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m., the symphony will perform at the Community Church in Ocean Pines at 3 p.m.

This year’s program brings the music lover an exciting program of great masters, virtuoso soloists, a celebrated vocalist, and even dancers. There will also be a collaboration of the MSO with the Seaford Community Concert Association for a special performance in March.

Music Director Julien Benichou and the orchestra open the season in October with Dariusz Skoraczewski, the principal cellist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, in his premiere solo appearance with the MSO, performing Franz Joseph Haydn’s glorious Cello Concerto. The program also features Carl von Weber’s Euryanthe Overture and concludes with Robert Schumann's dramatic and exquisite Symphony No. 4.

The MSO will usher in the holiday season with its ever-popular “Holiday Joy” concert. This program includes both classical music and traditional seasonal favorites and is a treat for the entire family. The orchestra will be joined this season by dancers of VT Dance, with Baker Award winning choreographer and Towson University faculty member Vincent Thomas as well as a special soprano, Jessica Bachicha.

Special for this season is a Season Opening Gala on Oct. 12 with honorary chairs Julien and Daphne Benichou at The Clubhouse at Baywood Greens in Long Neck, Del. from 5-9 p.m. to benefit the MSO and celebrate the new season. For $150 (which includes a $100 tax-deductible donation), guests will enjoy a delicious dinner in a spectacular venue and musical entertainment featuring a rare opportunity to hear Simeone Tartaglione, MSO associate conductor, perform as a pianist with his wife, violinist Alessandra Cuffaro, MSO Concert master violinist Nicholas Currie and BSO Principal cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski.
