Chefs For Habitat To Keep Wicomico Chapter Building

SALISBURY -- Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County will hold its third annual signature fund raising event, Chefs for Habitat, at Dove Pointe on Mt. Hermon Road in Salisbury on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 6-10 p.m.

Eight of the shore’s most talented chefs will prepare samplings of their signature dishes. Black Diamond will complement the servings with a carving station and appetizers.

Chefs include Joseph Bellia of Vinny’s La Roma; Tom Cooper of Fager’s Island; Juan Flores of Cactus Taverna; Patrick Fanning of The High Spot Gastropub; Danny Jacinto of SoBo’s Wine Beerstro; Susan Patt of Cake Art; Adam Sanders of Jules; and Katsumi Tamauchi of Sushi De Kanpai.

This year the event will also include a Celebrity Waiter’s Race featuring 12 local celebrities. The celebrity waiters have a chance to win in two ways -- by navigating a short obstacle course carrying a tray, on which is placed a white napkin and a glass of "wine", and being the first waiter to reach the finish line with a dry napkin and a full glass of wine or by raising the most money through votes.

Waiters include Chief Barbara Duncan, Chris Eccleston, Joey Gilkerson, Gains Hawkins, Mayor Jim Ireton, Emily Lampa of WMDT, Sheriff Mike Lewis, Gene Malone, Susan Megargee, Adrienne Naleppa, John Robinson and Dawn Tilghman

Guests will have a chance to meet the chefs and discuss their cooking techniques. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to purchase reservations at an offering of parties and dinners to be hosted by some of the Shore’s most gifted home cooks. Parties include Martinis & Appetizers hosted by Alan Merritt and William Hyle at the home of Joan and Dan Mulvanny; A Dinner for Eight at the Harrington Plantation hosted by Regina Bell; and A Dinner for Eight hosted by Diane Heron and featuring Chef Patrick Fanning.

The live and silent auction focus on two themes: “There’s no Place Like Home” which celebrates everything that makes our homes special, from landscaping and art to paint and décor and “The Great Escape” which will offer everything from wonderfully prepared meals to great getaways.

The event will raise money for the “Building on Faith” home, for habitat’s newest family partner, Terri Fisher, and her four children. Fisher is busy completing her 300 hours of sweat equity and saving $1,800 toward closing cost. When the house is finished, she will assume a 30-year, no interest mortgage from Habitat. The money Habitat raises in mortgages is invested in building homes for new families.
