Bowling League Looking for Few Teams

8/31/2012 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Senior Mixed Bowling League is seeking new participants interested in having fun and getting a little exercise for the upcoming season that begins in October.

Participants must be 55 years old or over by the start of the season to be eligible. There are currently 22 teams in the league with room for two more if formed by the start of the season on October 4. Each team consists of five beginner or experienced bowlers. The experience factor doesn’t matter because each bowler receives a handicap depending on his or her average.

The league bowls on Thursday afternoons at Ocean Lanes in Ocean City and is open to residents of the resort, owners of property in Ocean City and non-residents who reside in surrounding areas. The cost is $95 for city residents and property owners, and $105 for non-residents. The fee covers the cost of bowling, cash prizes and awards.

The league starts October 4 and ends on Thursday, April 11, followed by an awards banquet on April 18. There will be no bowling on Thanksgiving or the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If one cannot commit to the full season, they can consider registering as a substitute. There is a registration fee of $15 for Ocean City residents and $25 for non-residents.

The Senior Bowling League is a fun league subsidized by the town of Ocean City. To sign up as a regular bowler or a substitute, or for more information including the formation of a new team, contact Ann Brent, League Secretary and Senior Citizen Coordinator at the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department at (410) 250-0125.
