OCEAN CITY – The 2012 season of the new Dew Tour kicked off yesterday in Ocean City under sunny skies. With a line of spectators stretching down the Boardwalk, the Pantech Beach Championships opened with a day of action both in and out of the water.
The pioneers of bowl skating convened on the beach in Ocean City to showcase their timeless skills as the sun set. After each skater landed his first run, it was clear the competition would be heavy.
Chris Miller came out on top for the second year in a row with a run that made use of the whole bowl, combining lip tricks and airs, including a huge transfer into the deep end and frontside corner airs. Christian Hosoi and Steve Caballero rounded out the podium in second and third place, respectively.
“I’ve known a lot of these guys since I was 10 years old,” said Miller. “We grew up together and it means a lot to skate with them. It’s great that we’re all still skating and have a forum like this to come out and show the public what we do.”
Here is the official results: 1. Chris Miller, Calif., 88.50. 2.Christian Hosoi, Calif., 83.50. 3. Steve Caballero, Calif., 81.75. 4. Lance Mountain, Calif., 81.50. 5. Tony Magnusson, Calif., 80.75. 6. Pat Ngoho, Calif., 75.25. 7. Jeff Grosso, Calif., 75.25. 8. Eddie Elguerra, Calif., 69.00. 9. Steve Alba, Calif., 63.00.
Following the Skate Bowl Legends Final, the focus turned to the water for the GoDaddy.com Surf Expression Session.
Eric Geiselman and Nate Yeoman battled it out in the final round of the tow-in contest while RAC spun a set under the lights. Geiselman edged out Yeoman, using the speed of the jet ski to complete a huge combination maneuver and the biggest air. “I’m super stoked on the win,” said Geiselman.
