Richmond Team To Host Girls Lax Camps

5/11/2007 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN - Local girls' lacrosse enthusiasts and those
looking to get introduced to the game will have a great opportunity next month
when the University of Richmond women's team hosts a series of camps at
Worcester Prep in Berlin.

The University of Richmond womens' lacrosse team last
weekend won their third straight Atlantic 10 Conference tournament
championship, beating George Washington, 15-7, in the finals, and earned a
berth in the NCAA Division I tournament. The Spiders will face sixth-seeded UNC
on Sunday.

The Richmond team, led by A-10 Coach of the Year Sue
Murphy, as well as 2005 Worcester Prep graduate and former lacrosse standout
Sarah Townsend, will host a Premiere Lacrosse Camp at the Berlin school in June
for advanced players already involved in the sport and beginners hoping to
learn the game and get involved in one of the fastest growing sports in the
area.

For girls entering grades 6-12, the Richmond camp will be
held from Monday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 20 from 8:30 a.m. to noon each
day. Members of the Richmond coaching staff and several players from the championship
team will be on hand to coach the older girls. The cost of the three-day camp
for the older girls is $160.

For younger girls entering grades 3-5, the Richmond
players and coaches will host a one-day camp on Monday, June 18, from 6-8 p.m.
This camp will focus on skills and drills for younger players just starting out
in lacrosse. The cost for the one-day youth camp is $25.

The
camps are being used as a fundraiser for the program to help offset travel
costs. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt. The team is also sponsored
by Brine, so there will also be plenty of Brine giveaways. Interested players
are encouraged to register for the camps online at
