Song Of Summer Voting Begins

7/13/2012 | By Publisher/ Editor, Steven Green

OCEAN CITY — The Town of Ocean City announced Tuesday it has opened voting to the public to choose the official Song of the Summer for 2012.

After receiving more than 50 original entries, contest administrators chose the top three songs and are now asking the public to vote for the winner. Listening and voting can take place either at www.facebook.com/OceanCity or www.ococean.com/SongofSummer.

The top three Song of Summer finalists selected are Michael Butler’s Ocean City, John Garshnick’s In the OC and Chuck Conjar’s Ocean City Days.

“We are thrilled to narrow down our selections to the final three and encourage all of our visitors to vote for their favorite song,” said Mayor Rick Meehan. “We were extremely pleased by the many entries that mentioned the special place Ocean City has in everyone’s summer memories. We cannot wait to find out what song our fans choose as the summer anthem of 2012.”

Public voting will end on July 22. The official winner will be announced on July 23. The contest winner will win the opportunity to have the song produced and recorded in Ocean City as well as perform the song at Sunfest 2012.

Waylon Jennings said, 'Music should never be about competition', which is why he never attended any award ceromonies. I've lost contests and it didn't feel very good. I've won some too and that didn't feel much better. Either way I plan on putting my new song, 'Ocean City' on my upcoming album. Now I'm gonna search for 'It's a shore thing' and 'OC Maryland Time' Thanks. MB

I heard the 3 Ocean City songs and there should be a dislike button. I heard Bill Ziemski's 'OC Maryland Time' which is very catchy. That song has my vote. I can't get that song out of my head.

Wow - 3 different type songs, 3 talented folks! Still like Tim Landers 'Its a Shore Thing', just sorry the contest administrators don't! Still going to Sunfest but still have lots of days of the Endless Summer of 2012 left!

I went to the OC site to vote expecting to see Tim Landers 'It's A Shore Thing' there and it wasn't. What's going on? I didn't vote for any of the other 3 as they are all inferior to Tim's. SAD!!!

I am disappointed also. Tim Lander's song is better then the three I heard. I also heard other songs on Youtube that were much better then the finalists.

Say, I thought Tim Landers' 'It's a Shore Thing' should have been in the running. Am disappointed.

The 3 finalist songs are not what I would consider an official Ocean City Song. Are there any other songs that we can vote on?
