Dr. Vernon Harry Wiesand

SALISBURY – Dr. Vernon Harry Wiesand, 92 of Salisbury, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Anchorage Nursing Home in Salisbury.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William J. and Louise Voelkel Wiesand.

Vernon was a good husband and father, his integrity was only exceeded by his kindness toward his fellow man. He achieved much in life despite contracting Polio at a very young age. Vernon had a high degree of acceptance throughout his life and instilled that quality in others, was a great role model and power of example. He had a talent for bringing people together for a common cause and achieving goals, hence his leadership positions at many organizations: Baltimore German Society, President; International Wine & Food Society Baltimore Chapter, President; Mount Vernon/Belvedere Association, President; Baltimore Elks Club #7, Grand Exalted Ruler; Baltimore Recreation of Parks, Chairman of the Board; and Art Commission of Baltimore City, Chairman of the Board.

He was also a member of the Society for the History of Germans in Maryland, Boumi Temple Baltimore Chapter and a Life Member since 1946, and a member of the Maryland Bar Association. He graduated in 1943 from Western Maryland College. It was while attending Western Maryland College he met his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley. He then received his Law Degree from the University of Maryland. He was a Magistrate in Baltimore City, where he was known by many throughout his life as “Judge Wiesand.” He was also a collector of fine wines, and finally after a fulfilling career retired to Mallard Landing in Salisbury.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Wiesand; three children, Nancy Conner and her husband Curtis, Stephanie Rivkind, and Mark Wiesand and his wife Carole Maier; three grandchildren, Victoria, Dustin, and Alex; and four great-grandchildren.

James M. Eby

OCEAN CITY -- James M. Eby, of Ocean City, died Friday, June 1, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.  

Jim was born in Baltimore and was the son of the late George Franklin and Alice Loretta Eby.

He had worked for General Electric for many years and was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.  

He is survived by his wife, Marianne “Dubby” Eby; a sister, Ann Siltman; a niece; two nephews; and four great nieces.  

Memorial services were held yesterday at St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City. Good Bye Mr. Wonderful.
