3 Failed Robberies In 11 Minutes

SALISBURY -- A Salisbury man was arrested on numerous charges this week after allegedly attempting three armed robberies at local businesses within the span of about 11 minutes on Monday night.

At 8:02 p.m. on Monday, Salisbury Police responded to the Shell Gas Station on Snow Hill Rd. in Salisbury for an attempted armed robbery. Officers learned the suspect had entered the store and demanded an employee give him money from the cash register.

When the employee told the suspect, later identified as Corey Chandler Wolcott, 37, of Salisbury, he was going to call 911, the suspect fled the store on foot and a description was broadcast.

About four minutes later, Salisbury Police officers responded to the Wendy’s restaurant on S. Salisbury Blvd. for a reported attempted robbery. The investigation revealed a suspect matching Wolcott’s description had entered the restaurant and demanded money from an employee. During the robbery attempt, Wolcott allegedly made a motion to his coat pocket to suggest he was carrying a weapon, but no weapon was ever revealed. The employee told Wolcott he had to leave the establishment, at which point the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to police reports.

At 8:13 p.m., or about 11 minutes after the initial call, Salisbury Police officers responded to the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant nearby for a third attempted robbery report. As officers arrived on the scene, they were directed to the nearby railroad tracks where the suspect was last seen fleeing southbound on foot. Officers observed the suspect and a foot chase ensued, resulting in Wolcott being apprehended in the area of Horner Honda. Wolcott was found to be in possession of a knife.

The investigation revealed Wolcott allegedly entered the restaurant and demanded money from an employee. The employee handed Wolcott a cup and told him to get a soda and that she would be with him after waiting on another customer. Wolcott took the cup, but apparently got impatient and fled the restaurant on foot before being caught on the railroad tracks a short time later.

Employees from each of the establishments identified Wolcott as the suspect. No injuries were reported and no money or property was taken.

Wolcott was arrested and charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and three counts each of attempted robbery, disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment.
