Snow Hill Wins Opener in Season Dedicated to Miller

BERLIN- Just months after the passing of long-time Allen Miller, who patrolled the sidelines for 16 years, the Snow Hill High School basketball team on Tuesday began a new era with a resounding 75-40 win over North Dorchester in a season opener dedicated to their former mentor.

Miller, a teacher and coach at Snow Hill High for two decades, died of an apparent heart attack in September at the age of 47, leaving the entire community stunned at the sudden loss of a man so passionate and dedicated to his school, his student-athletes and his family. Miller coached several sports and served for a considerable amount of time as Snow Hill’s athletic director, but his true passion was his basketball team, which won three state championships in 16 years under his watch.

Miller was perhaps best known in Snow Hill, where he taught and coached for two decades, but his legacy extends far beyond the quiet, rural town in the south end of the county. He was well known in Berlin and Ocean City and across the entire Eastern Shore, where he played and coached sports at every level and at every age group.

Despite the obvious void, life moves on at Snow Hill, which had to pick up the pieces in the wake of the passing of its long-time teacher and coach and to that end, the varsity basketball team started a new era on Tuesday under the direction of Coach Greg Bozman, Sr., who coached most recently at Washington High in Somerset County. The team took the floor for the first time since Miller’s passing on Tuesday to start a season dedicated to their late coach and came away with an emotional win over North Dorchester.

The Eagles jumped out to a big early win, withstood a mini-run by North Dorchester in the second quarter and steadily pulled away for the impressive 75-40 win under Coach Bozman, whose son Greg Bozman, Jr., a transfer from Crisfield High, led the way with 38 points.
