WEST OCEAN CITY — A local man drowned while apparently attempting to pump out water from his boat on a creek in West Ocean City last weekend.
Around 11:40 a.m. last Sunday, Maryland State Police troopers from the Berlin barrack responded to a waterfront area near Waterview Drive in West Ocean City for a reported deceased individual in the water. Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police (NRP) also arrived and assisted the Maryland State Police in bringing the deceased to shore.
The victim was identified as Paul Scott, 68, of West Ocean City. The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) was brought in to investigate the apparent drowning. During the course of the investigation, it was learned Scott kept his boat near the location where he was found.
It was also learned after each rain storm, Scott would often pump water out of his boat. WCBI investigators found a tote bag in the area with a water pump inside. According to WCBI detectives, foul play is not expected at this time although the incident remains under investigation. The victim’s remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
