High School Tennis Grand Prix Concludes

OCEAN CITY- The Delmarva High School Grand Prix summer-long tennis tournament series concluded last weekend with championships earned in several divisions.

The championship tournaments featured top players from seven different high schools vying for the coveted trophies. The boys’ Gold Flight was dominated by players from Bennett High School. Bennett’s Luke Murphy beat another Bennett player in Brock Forsythe, 6-3 and 6-1. To get to the championship, Forsythe had to beat top-seeded Steve Lemerand, while Murphy knocked off second-seeded Adam Pizza from Worcester Prep. In the boys’ Silver Flight, a pair of Bennett players reached the finals with Jun Lee winning a marathon match over Zeth Weaver to win the title. Lee beat Decatur’s Alex Kim in one semifinal, while Weaver had to overcome Worcester Prep’s Dominic Anthony.

The girls’ Golf Flight was dominated by players from North Dorchester High School. Kayla Allen beat sister Kathryn Allen in the championship match. Kayla Allen got to the title match by beating Rebecca Faulkner, also of North Dorchester, while Kathryn Allen reached the finals by beat Karlie Allen. In the girls’ Silver Flight, Kaitlyn Doetsch of Colonel Richardson beat Sarah Morris of Saints Peter and Paul. To reach the finals, Doetsch beat Grace Beres of Decatur, while Morris reached the final by beating Katie Ann Schisler of Saints Peter and Paul.
