Two Local Players Win First In Tennis Series

OCEAN CITY- The first of three summer high school tennis tournaments at the Ocean City Tennis Center was completed last weekend with two local players finishing tied atop the boys’ division and advancing to the series final later this summer.

A total of 24 juniors from eight Eastern Shore high schools competed last Saturday in the first leg of the Ocean City Tennis Center’s summer high school tournament series last weekend. In the boys’ Gold Flight, Josh Domingo of Stephen Decatur and Adam Pizza of Worcester Prep finished tied at the top of the standings with 39 points each after a tight battle from top to bottom. Steven Lemeraud of Bohemia Manor High School finished third with 33 points.

In the boys Silver Flight, three players from James M. Bennett High School took the top three spots with Zeth Weaver collecting 40 points, Alex Kim with 30 points and Jun Lee with 25 points. In the girls’ Golf Flight, Kayla Allen of North Dorchester took first with 39 points, Karlie Allen, also of North Dorchester, and Emily Lindsay of Bohemia Manor, tied for second with 32 points each. In the girls’ Silver Division, it was Kathryn Allen of North Dorchester, Kaitlyn Doetsch of Colonel Richardson and Daphne Duckworth of Bohemia Manor tying for first with 39 points each.

Last Saturday’s event was the first of three in the Grand Prix Summer Circuit at the Ocean City Tennis Center. The next two tournaments will be held on July 10 and August 7. The top four players in the previous gold and silver flights will be invited to play in the Grand Prix finals on August 28. The series is open to any players who competed in high school tennis on the Eastern Shore.
