Linda Lynch was a beautiful young lady crowned “Miss Ocean City” and represented the resort in the semi-final of the “Miss Delmarva.”

The George Washington Hotel was a new hit the summer of ’56. With a completely new cocktail lounge and dining room, up-to-date carpeting and a roof garden, guests had nothing to complain about.

During the winter of ’56 nearly $2 million had been spent on the resort on new construction. One of the biggest construction jobs was the building of the Santa Maria Motel, a structure that was the largest hotel in Ocean City.

An ocean aquarium was opened, featuring a giant tank containing every type of fish native to the waters surrounding Ocean City. Outside of the aquarium would be an enclosure containing massive sea turtles that were also found off the coast of Ocean City.

The Question Mark Restaurant held Ocean City’s largest fishing boat which hosted afternoon scenic cruises and moonlight cruises.

Louis Armstrong appeared at the Paddock Night Club and was featured at the Danceland, a former musical show.
