Early Registration Open For Komen O.C. Race

OCEAN CITY- While the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K and fun walk is still months away, registration is now open for the popular annual event that includes some significant changes this year.

Now through January 22, Komen Maryland is offering a $15 early bird discount on all adult registration types, making an adult untimed registration fee $20 and an adult timed registration fee $25. The early bird discount will be the deepest discount available in the ramp up to the annual special event, scheduled this year for Saturday, April 16. For years, the event has been held on a Sunday at the Inlet and Boardwalk in Ocean City, but Komen officials are moving it to Saturday this year to make it more of a weekend-long event.

“With events planned across the weekend, this inspiring event will offer an opportunity to enjoy a weekend getaway to Ocean City as the sunny spring season begins,” said Eastern Shore Race and Development Manager Jessica Evans this week. “Working closely with our hotel partners, we’re crafting terrific getaway packages for race participants, their teams, families and friends. Local restaurants and area businesses will also offer race supporters a variety of options for dining, entertainment and shopping experiences.”

The race will still begin at 9 a.m., but on Saturday instead of Sunday this year. Most of the Race Village activities will take place after the race this year, including the survivor parade, survivor dance party and a “shoe salute.” Look for more details in the Komen Maryland Race website at www.komenmdblog.org in the coming months.
