Seahawks Rout Eagles, 52-13, In Finale

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team took out several weeks of frustration on Worcester County rival Snow Hill, routing the Eagles, 52-13, last Friday.

The season had a promising beginning for Decatur with three straight wins and a 3-0 start, but a series of critical injuries and ill-timed errors and penalties sent the Seahawks on a six-game skid through the middle and toward the end of the 2015 campaign. Particularly difficult was a long stretch through the middle of the season against tough Bayside North teams.

The Seahawks could not pull out of that nose dive and lost to a handful of its Bayside South rivals including Bennett and Parkside. Decatur was in almost every game, but each week found a new way to lose during the streak. However, providing a perfect opportunity to end the season on a high note was old rival Snow Hill, which was winless on the season.

Over the years, Decatur and Snow Hill have battled in the season finale, often with bigger stakes involved for one team or the other, or both, in terms of state playoff eligibility. This year, with nothing more at stake than Worcester County bragging rights and the opportunity to end a streak, the Seahawks routed the Eagles, 52-13, to end to season on a winning note and set the tone for a promising season next year.
