Decatur Golfers Win Pines Match

OCEAN PINES- Stephen Decatur’s varsity golf team won the Bayside match at Ocean Pines on Monday to maintain the smallest of margins over rival Bennett in the conference standings.

The Seahawks finished with a team-low score of 179. Bennett was second with a team score of 185, while Parkside was third with a 208. Decatur’s Matt Kinsey shot a 43 to earn co-medalist honors for the match along with Bennett’s Ayden Whitehead, who also shot a 43. For Decatur, Matt Kristick shot a 44, Tanner Leonard and Hailey Brown each shot 46 and Hayden Snelsire finished with a 51.

With the win, the Seahawks hold a narrow one point lead over Bennett in the conference standings. One point is awarded for a win, two points for a second-place finish and three points for a third and so on. Decatur now has seven team points, followed by Bennett with eight. Parkside is a distant third with 15 points.
