BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity soccer team continued its early season dominance this week, beating visiting Salisbury Christian, 11-1, on Wednesday to remain unbeaten.

The Mallards steadily pulled ahead of Salisbury Christian through the first half and led 5-1 at the intermission. In the second half, Worcester applied relentless pressure on the Salisbury Christian defensive end and rolled to the 11-1 win.

With just about four minutes gone in the second half, Worcester’s Julia D’Antonio scored on a nice crossing shot to extend the Mallards’ lead to 6-1. About five minutes later, Sarah Savage made a great move in front of the Salisbury Christian goal and fired home a shot to extend the lead to 7-1. With a little over 29 minutes remaining in the second, Julia Talbert fired a high shot that the Salisbury Christian keeper deflected, but the ball bounced off the crossbar and into the goal to push the Mallard lead to 8-1.

Worcester’s Anchita Batra scored with a little over 17 minutes remaining to extend the lead to 9-1 and a short time later, Sammy Wolpin added a tenth goal for the Mallards. The Mallards backed off for much of the second half and played patiently with a big lead. Worcester scored on a goal in an unsettled situation in front of the Salisbury Christian net with just under two minutes remaining to close out the 11-1 win.

With the win, Worcester improved to 4-0 on the season. The Mallards beat Gunston, 8-0, in the season opener, then beat FCA Soccer Club, 1-0, in its second contest. On Monday, Worcester vanquished old rival Saints Peter and Paul, 2-0, in the first of what will likely be the usual trilogy, before the win over Salisbury Christian on Wednesday.

The Worcester girls, believe it or not already, play their last regular season home game next Friday against Salisbury School. The Mallards will then close out their regular season with four straight on the road.
