BERLIN- After two matches this week in the annual Ryder Cup-style tournament between neighborhood rivals Worcester Prep and Stephen Decatur, the two teams have played to a dead heat, setting up a big finale in the final leg next week.

Crosstown rivals Worcester and Decatur meet almost every year in a Ryder Cup-style golf tournament to determine bragging rights in the neighborhood. The two teams played back-to-back matches this week with different formats for the first two legs of the tournament and after 10 holes of extremely competitive golf, Worcester and Decatur are tied with four wins each.

The first two legs were played at the War Admiral course at Glen Riddle on Monday with the boys playing from the blue tees and the girls playing from the red tees. The first match featured pairs of players from each team playing five holes in a better ball of partner format. The format was match play and one point was awarded for each individual pair’s win.

Decatur’s Matt Kristick and Matt Kinsey beat Worcester’s Jason Cook and John Meakin, but Worcester responded with three wins. Austin Taylor and Jon Ruddo beat Tanner Leonard and Hayden Snelsire, Bennett Truitt and Thomas Polk beat Hailey Brown and Emily Malinowski, and Grant Brown and Jacob Meakin beat Bailey Warren and Jamie Wilkinson.

The second match featured five holes of alternate shot play between the pairs from the two schools. In the second match, Worcester’s Jason Cook and John Meakin beat Matt Kristick and Matt Kinsey. However, Decatur rebounded with three wins. Taylor and Ruddo beat Leonard and Snelsire, Truitt and Polk beat Hailey Brown and Malinowski, and Grant Brown and Jacob Meakin beat Warren and Wilkinson.

After the first two matches, the two teams are now tied at 4-4. The third and final match, which will feature eight singles matches with one point for each victory will be held next Tuesday at Eagle’s Landing to decide the 2015 Ryder Cup between the two schools.
