Louise R. Swontek

OCEAN CITY — Louise R. Swontek, 77, of Ocean City, and formerly of Baltimore, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015 at her son’s home in Lewes.

She was born December 6, 1937 in Baltimore, a daughter of the late John Edward Randall and Margaret Sophie (Cushing) Randall.

In her earlier years, Louise worked at Andy’s Sub Shop in Baltimore, where she developed many long lasting friendships. After moving to Ocean City, she loved her work as the manager of the Montego Bay Pool where she also had many friends. She was a mom to everyone and her home was always a welcome place for kids in the neighborhood.  She is remembered as a proud and loving grandmother who was always supportive of her grandchildren’s sports and school activities.

She is survived by sons, John Anthony Swontek, III and wife, Maryanne of Baltimore and William (Bill) R. Swontek and wife, Karen of Lewes; five grandchildren, Heather, Stacy, Billy, Lindsey and Madi; a great grandchild, Peyton; a brother, Bill Randall of Baltimore; a sister, Frannie Emege of Easton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Anthony Swontek, Jr., who passed in 2012 and several brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10301 Coastal Hwy, Ocean City, Md. 21842.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del. 19963.

Charlotte ‘Lorraine’ Gale

COLUMBIA — On Aug. 18, 2015, Charlotte “Lorraine” Gale died of heart failure.

Lorraine was born in Staten Island, N.Y. on Oct. 6, 1929 to James Edward Farley and Charlotte Lucille Farley (Emory). She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Gale; daughter, Charlotte Joy Fiori; and Terry Darleen McArthur.

During World War II, Lorraine was an early volunteer of the Women’s’ Auxiliary Group performing fund raising, letter writing and other support activities for returning soldiers and the war effort. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She moved to Baltimore in the early 1950’s where she raised four children and often opened her home to others in need. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Edward Hayes and William Charles Hayes. She is also survived by son-in-law Michael Fiori, daughter-in-law Carol Ann Hayes, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorraine was the oldest of four siblings, Margaret ZurHidie, Marilyn Yeagley and James Edward Farley Jr.

Visitation was held at the Witzke Funeral Homes, Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Rd., Columbia, Md. 21045. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Aug. 24 at St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, Md. 21029.

Samuel Fulton

NEWARK — Samuel Fulton, age 85, of Falls Church, Va. and Newark, died on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va.

Born Nov. 19, 1929 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Lawrence McKinley and Mary Elizabeth Pagliaro Fulton.

He attended St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, Va. and St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Berlin. He was a graduate of Langley High School in Pittsburgh. Sam founded and operated Challenger Products, Inc. of Virginia in 1965 and was active in the business until the day of his death. He was a member of Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington where he loved to play tennis.

Sam served with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He was a real estate developer, an entrepreneur and the leading sales representative for Challenger Products. Horses, farming and his mule “Rachel” were his hobbies.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Myrna Rees Fulton; his children, Ellen Rose Fulton Sensel of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Samuel John Fulton of Temecula, Calif.; his sister, Mary Jean Merkt of Falls Church, Va.; four step-children, Dale Tripp of Eugene, Ore., David Logsdon of Brooklyn, N,Y., Valerie Logsdon of Grass Valley, Calif. and Hugh Logsdon of Eureka Springs, Ariz.; three granddaughters, Candace, Faith and Shana Fulton; his favorite niece, Susie Lyn Merkt; and three step-grandchildren, Lauren Shetaka, Matthew and Laura Logsdon.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Liberty & S. Washington Streets, Berkeley Springs, W.Va with the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as celebrant. Interment was private.

William Lawson English

CAMBRIDGE — The Reverend William Lawson English, only child of William Marion English and Mollie Stewart English, was born July 19, 1936 in the Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.  Rev. English died peacefully, Tuesday morning, Aug, 25, 2015 at his home.

William graduated from Cambridge High School in 1954; Wesley College in Dover, Del. in 1957 and the American University in Washington, DC in 1960.  He was in the office of the Treasurer of the U.S. in Washington from 1960 until 1962.

He matriculated to the General Theological Seminary in New York City, September 1962 and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Divinity in 1965.  He was ordained priest in the Episcopal Church on Dec. 21, 1965 in Easton by the Rt. Reverend Allen J. Miller, Bishop of Easton.

Rev. English served as Rector of St. Stephen’s, East New Market; St. Andrew’s, Hurlock and the Chapel of the Epiphany, Preston, from 1965 through 1966.

In 1967, he returned to New York City to become the priest at St. Mary’s, Castleton, Staten Island, N.Y. where he remained until his retirement Nov. 1, 1999.  He served St. Mary’s for 32 years.

After his retirement, he moved back to Cambridge, where he lived in his childhood home until his death.

Surviving him are several cousins and good friends.

Funeral services will be conducted from Old Trinity Church, Church Creek, Md. on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 beginning at noon.  Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge. Officiating will be several of Rev. English’s colleagues.
