Second Leg Of High School Tennis Tourney Complete

OCEAN CITY- The second leg of the Delmarva High School Tennis Tournament hosted by the Ocean City Tennis Center last weekend moved local competitors closer to the finale in the summer-long Grand Prix tournament.

High school tennis players from all over Delmarva competed in the event at the Ocean City Tennis Center last Sunday. All four divisions came down to the final round to determine the winners. Conner Houtman of Parkside won all three of his matches to take first place in the Gold Flight with 39 points. Osama Ghazanffer of Washington High was second with 33 points, followed by Steven Lemerand of Bohemia Manor and Harry Cooke of Dover with 26 each.

The boys’ Silver Flight produced a three-way tie for first. Christian Beres of Decatur, Ryan Shriver of Parkside and Richard Wright of Salisbury School each recorded 39 points. Second place went to Hussain Ahmed from Wicomico High and third went to Adam Pizza of Worcester Prep.

In the girls’ Golf Flight, Natalie Lopez of Bohemia Manor took first with 39 points. Hyunji Lee of Bennett was second and Danielle Johnson of Parkside was third. In the girls’ Silver Flight, Mallory Wainwright of Parkside was first, Sarah Morris of Saints Peter and Paul was second and Sydney Weaver of Bennett was third.

With only one tournament remaining, Houtman leads the boys’ Gold Flight, while Beres leads the boys’ Silver Flight. Lopez leads the girls’ Gold Flight, while Wainwright sits atop the girls’ Silver Flight. The third leg of the Delmarva High School Championships will be held in Ocean City on August 23. The top four point winners will then proceed to the Grand Prix finals at the Ocean City Tennis Center on September 20.
