BERLIN- History could be repeating itself for the Berlin Little League 9-10 All-Star team, which captured the District 8 championship last Sunday and is now headed to Frederick in western Maryland to defend its state championship.

The 9-10 All-Stars beat Fruitland, 9-0, last Sunday to win the District 8 championship for the second year in a row. The 9-10 team swept all five of its games in the District 8 tourney, beating its opponents by a combined 70-2. Berlin yielded two runs in a 13-2 win over Willards in the district tournament opener, and never gave up another one, beating Pocomoke, 25-0; Fruitland, 10-0; Snow Hill, 13-0, and Fruitland again, 9-0, last Sunday.

In the win over Fruitland in the championship game, Brenner Gursky was the winning pitcher, scattering just two hits. Jack Quisgard led the offense with three singles, while Brooks Kendall collected two hits. Gursky helped his own cause with a single and William Croll added a double for Berlin.

Coach Craig Lynch’s 9-10 team will now head to Frederick next week to compete in the Maryland state tournament where they are the defending champion. Last year, the 9-10 swept through five games to win the state championship, beating Valley, 9-4, in the finale. With the state championship victory, the Berlin 9-10 team advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament in Rhode Island, but hit the wall a little after the district and state championship and bowed out after the remarkable run.
