16th Decatur Boosters Tourney A Big Success

BERLIN- The 16th Annual Stephen Decatur Athletic Boosters golf tournament last week was a huge success with a maxed out field of golfers on a blistering hot Tuesday afternoon raising a record amount of funds for the school’s athletic programs.

The tournament played at Eagle’s Landing last Tuesday raised a new record $30,000 for the various sports programs at Decatur. After a skydiver touched down around the first tee, the maxed out field of around 150 golfers headed out to their first holes for a shotgun start. While the event was all about raising money for the Decatur sports programs and camaraderie and fun, no less important was the competition on the course.

For the record, first-place net went to the foursome of Ron Wist, Marc Wist, Tim Remenapp and Drew Murray. First-place gross went to the team of Scott Lenox, Luke Blume, Bud Morgan and Jim Brown. Second-place net went to Bob Booth, Doug Bailey, Lee Venables and Steve Whaley. Second-place gross went to Dan Parker, Danny Parker, Nikki Rafer and Mark Longanecker.

Third-place net went to Jason Pylypczuk, Alex West, Shawn Bunting and Chris Bunting. Third-place gross went to James Mapp, Bernell Bowen, Vic Smack and Kevin Brittingham. Fourth-place net went to Ronnie Rickards, Mike Redner, Susan Petito and John Petito. Fifth-place net went to Don Furbay, Alex Rusky, Brian Mitchell and Brian Taylor.

There were four closest-to-the-pins holes. On number five, Gage Lester was closest at 1’11”. Bernell Bowen was closest to the pin at number eight at 4’6”. Doug Bailey was closest to the pin on number 12 at 5’7”, while Don Furbay was closest to the pin on number 17 at 2’10”. The longest drive by a lady golfer was Susan Petito on hole number one, while Bud Morgan hit the longest drive by a male on number three. The straightest drive by a female was Delaney Iacona on number nine, while Mike Noah hit the straightest drive by a male on number 14.
