BERLIN- Worcester Prep varsity lacrosse standout and faceoff specialist Ross Dickerson has been nominated for the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Memorial Award given each year to the best lacrosse player in the state of Maryland.

Dickerson was honored last week at the annual Kelly Awards Banquet at the Naval Academy with his parents Jim and Annemarie Dickerson in attendance. Dickerson, a standout athlete and faceoff specialist on Worcester Prep’s varsity lacrosse team, was named Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference Player of the Year this year and was also named ESIAC First Team and MILL First Team.

Dickerson won 78 percent of his face-offs for the Mallards this season. Outside of school, Dickerson is part of the Quiet Storm Lacrosse Club. The rising senior also plays varsity soccer in the fall at Worcester Prep. In addition, Dickerson is an talented gymnast and competed in gymnastics until the 8th grade when he switched his energies to soccer and lacrosse. It has become a tradition for Dickerson to do a back flip on the field every time the Worcester Prep soccer team scores a goal.

When he is not on the athletic fields, Dickerson also works in the summer as a line cook at the Shark on the Harbor in West Ocean City and at his family’s Route 50 Diner in the Francis Scott Key Hotel.

“I was delighted and honored to be nominated for such a prestigious award,” he said. “I look forward to my last season with the Mallards and getting ready for college.”

Dickerson has been invited to the University of Tampa’s Lacrosse Prospect Camp in July and hopes to play lacrosse for the Tampa Spartans in the not so distant future.
