Mallards Fall To Calverton In MILL Semifinals

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team fell in its final game of the season with a 17-8 loss to Calverton last week in the Maryland Independent Lacrosse League semifinals.

The Mallards essentially play in two leagues including the traditional Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) and the MILL, which features some of the best teams across the shore and in the Washington metropolitan area. Last Monday, the Worcester boys beat Salisbury School, 16-4, to repeat as ESIAC champions.

The ESIAC title game was also officially a quarterfinal game in the MILL and the Mallards advanced to the semifinals with the win. However, Worcester lost to Calverton, 17-8, in the semifinals. Calverton went on to win the MILL championship. In the Calverton game, Wyatt Richins and Brendan Miller each scored three goals, while Pat Petrara scored twice and had an assist. Ross Dickerson won 15 faceoffs and Wade Walter had 11 saves in the net. Despite the loss, the season was another successful one for the Mallards, who finished with an 11-4 record and repeated as ESIAC champions.
