Nurse Awarded
BERLIN – Atlantic General Hospital recently awarded the DAISY Award for excellence in nursing to Tanna Bradford.
Tanna Bradford
Bradford, a registered nurse who has worked at Atlantic General Hospital for four years, currently serves as a charge nurse on the Med-Surg Unit. Throughout her career, she has worked in various roles including home health, hospice and care coordination for individuals with disabilities.
Bradford’s first nomination was from a patient who wrote, “Tanna is the epitome of a good nurse.” Her second nomination came from a family member who described Bradford as the “most compassionate nurse I have ever met.” The family member praised Bradford for the care provided to her mother not just on this occasion, but on also on previous hospitalizations. She describes how Bradford expressed genuine concern and spent extra time to provide compassionate care to her family member. She wrote, “My mom always responds and smiles when she [Tanna] walks into the room. I respect her so much and truly adore her.”
Of her nomination, Bradford said, “It is truly an honor to be nominated. I take pride in being a nurse and working at AGH. It’s nice to be acknowledged by the patients and their families.”
The DAISY Award, created by The DAISY Foundation in Memory of J. Patrick Barnes, honors the extraordinary work nurses do for patients and families each day. Hospital leadership brought the awards program to Atlantic General to recognize the compassion and high level of care its nurses provide to residents and visitors of the community.
Patients and visitors can nominate an Atlantic General Hospital and Health System nurse for the DAISY Award at any time. Nomination forms are available in every hospital department and health system physician office.
Restaurateur Recognized
BALTIMORE — The Casey Cares Foundation, which provides programs for critically ill children and their families, recently held its 15th Anniversary Gala at the American Vision Art Museum in Baltimore.
Buddy Trala
Each year, Casey Cares selects outstanding companies or individuals for their commitment to the charity. Recognizing donors who have been instrumental in making their programs successful, the foundation presented Buddy Trala of the Sunset Grille Restaurant in Ocean City with the Champion of Children Award for 2015.
Since 2010, Trala has generously supported one of the foundation’s most requested programs, Celebration Vacations. Spending time together far away from treatment schedules helps families remain focused on the everyday things that make them happy. Whether it’s at the beach, an adventure park or as a guest in their home town, the Celebration Vacation Program allows families to choose their vacation location and enjoy some relaxation and rejuvenation.
Trala arranges Ocean City weekends at the Holiday Inn on 17th Street and treats each family to dinner at the Sunset Grille restaurant. Over 40 families have enjoyed a beach getaway with a delicious meal courtesy of Trala, who always takes the time to personally meet each family. This “special touch” is what makes Casey Cares such an important resource for the critically ill children they serve, and what made him the 2015 Champion of Children recipient.
New Board Member Named
SALISBURY — Edward M. Thomas, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Bank of Delmarva, announced the election of Laura Deeley Bren to the Board of Directors of the Bank and its holding company, Delmar Bancorp.

Bren is the President of Atlantic/Smith, Cropper & Deeley, one of the largest independent insurance agencies on the Eastern Shore. She is a second generation insurance agent and has been working in the insurance business since 2001. She received both the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) designations and she was recognized by a national trade publication as a “Top Woman in Insurance.” In addition to serving on many industry advisory councils, Bren is an active community volunteer. She is a member of Ocean City Baptist Church and a raving fan of Ocean City’s Believe in Tomorrow Foundation. She has most recently held the position of chair for the Atlantic General Hospital Foundation and has served with that organization in a leadership capacity for the last eight years.
“We are most pleased to add Laura to our Board,” said Thomas. “Her knowledge of the insurance industry will be helpful to us in a number of ways, including further understanding the bank’s commercial insurance coverages. As we expand our business in eastern Worcester County, Laura will help guide that expansion through her understanding of businesses in that market.”
Regulatory Approval Sought For Bank Name
BERLIN — Hampton Roads Bankshares, Inc., the holding company for the Bank of Hampton Roads (BHR) and Shore Bank, has announced that it intends to seek regulatory approval to merge its subsidiaries BHR, doing business as The Bank of Hampton Roads and Gateway Bank & Trust Company, and Shore Bank later this year into a single bank that will do business under the name Shore Bank.
In addition, subject to shareholder approval at its upcoming annual shareholder meeting in June, the company plans to change its name from Hampton Roads Bankshares to Shore Financial Corporation. The company’s mortgage banking subsidiary, Gateway Bank Mortgage, which is based in Raleigh, N.C., and its specialty finance business, Shore Premier Finance, which is based in Baltimore, will continue to operate under their respective names. These proposed changes relate to the company’s ongoing execution of its One Bank strategy and do not reflect any changes in ownership of the company or its subsidiary banks. The company expects no changes in branches or other office locations in connection with the merger or name changes.
