OCEAN PINES — Gloria Rose (Buscemi) Garrett of Ocean Pines died on Monday, March 16 at Merion Gardens, Carney’s Point, N.J. at the age of 92.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Gloria was married for 71 years to her beloved husband, John (Eddie), who she met at the USO during World War II. She attended Hunter College and worked for the Army Exchange Service. After the war, she stayed home to raise five daughters. She taught elementary school in Montgomery County, PA, for a short time before embarking on a thirteen-year career as a contract consultant for Prudential Insurance Company in Fort Washington, PA. She was involved in the PTA, local Republican politics, President of the Mother’s Club, President of Prudential Retired Employee’s Association, and supported her children in all their many activities including Girl Scouts, music, and drama. Family and education were of utmost importance to her. She was a crossword puzzle whiz and avid reader, enjoyed dancing with her husband, decorated her home with a keen eye for color and style and loved the beach.

Gloria is survived by her husband, John “Eddie” Garrett; her loving children, Linda Sweet and husband Bill of Fairfax, Va., Susan Garrett of Ocean Pines, Leslie Ritchie and husband Bill of Pedricktown, N.J., and Wendy Ericsson and husband George of Worcester, Pa. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Hahn of Pompton Plains, N.J., brother-in-law A. Donald Cross of San Francisco, Calif., seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Gloria Strickland; sister, Diana Della Rocca and her husband Ralph; and sister, Gilda Cross.

A memorial service will be held on March 28, 2015 and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at stjude.org or by mail to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn, 38105.

Ronald John Brooks

SELBYVILLE — Ronald John “Mr. B” Brooks, age 82, of Selbyville died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

He was born in Port Chester, N.Y. and was the son of the late Arthur John and Florence (Whalley) Brooks.

He had previously owned the former Brooks Advertising in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of University of Maryland and played on the basketball team from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of the M Club and member and former President of the Washington DC Jaycees. He also attended Fenwick Island Baptist Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Isabelle J. Brooks of Selbyville; two sons, Ronald C. Brooks of Potomac, Md. and John J. Brooks of Ocean City; a daughter, Suzee Nolan of Ocean Pines; a niece, Patti Pound of Edgewater, Md.; and seven grandchildren, Sam Nolan, Emma Brooks, Ella Brooks, Elissa Brooks, Emelia Brooks, Delaney Brooks and Curt Brooks.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Brooks.

A funeral service was held. Burial was in Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro.

Rose Mae Brous

OCEAN CITY — Rose Mae Brous, age 77, went to be with her Lord on March 17, 2015 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

Born in Salisbury, she was the sixth child of the late Charles and Sallie Dryden Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband George Brous in 1978. Surviving are her children, Nick Brous of New York, N.Y. and Joel Brous and his wife Christine of Ocean City, and grandchildren, Dryden, Hattie, George and Henry. She leaves her beloved companion, Coleman Bunting of Ocean City. Also surviving is her sister, Joan Wilson and Joan’s husband Ralph as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose was a long-time resident of Ocean City. A graduate of Salisbury State Teachers College, she taught in both Baltimore County and later for the Department of Defense in West Berlin, Germany. Upon her return to the states, she married George Brous. She owned/operated the Flamingo Motel on 31st Street. She was President of the Hotel, Motel Association and was currently on the board. In 2008, she was crowned Queen of the Mardi Gras for personally raising more than $30,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims. She served on the boards for the Ethics Commission of Ocean City, Delmarva Women’s Club and Wor-Wic Community College. Rose taught Sunday school to junior and senior high school youth at the Atlantic Methodist Church, assisted Atlantic General Hospital with its fundraisers, and was an avid supporter of the Worcester County’s Commission for Women’s McGuffey summer reading program. Rose was honored on March 18, 2015 as the 2015 “Woman of the Year.”

Rose was a kind, gentle, compassionate woman, loved by all. She had a true Christian heart and brought out the best in all who knew her.
