Local Prep Teams Reach State Semifinals

BERLIN- While the Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team fell just short in their bid for a regional championship on Monday, other teams in the local area won their regional titles and are moving on to the state Final Four in their respective divisions.

The Pocomoke girls’ varsity basketball team won its 1A-East region championship on Monday, beating Bohemia Manor, 59-25, in the title game. The Pocomoke girls beat Washington and Cambridge-South Dorchester in the first two rounds to reach the region final on Monday. The Warriors will play Forestville, winners of the 1A-North, in the state semifinals.

The Wicomico High boys’ varsity basketball team also won its regional championship on Monday, beating Harford Tech, 70-58, in the 2A-East final on Monday. Wicomico beat Easton in overtime and Queen Anne’s in the second round to reach the region final. Wicomico will face Patterson in the Final Four with a trip to the state championship game on the line.
