Decatur Boys Bow Out Of Regional Tourney

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity basketball team quietly bowed out of the state 3A-East region tournament with a 65-54 loss to Huntingtown at home last Saturday, but the future looks bright for the program.

The Seahawks entered the 3A-East tournament at the fourth seed and earned a home game against fifth-seeded Huntington in the opening round. In a game moved to Saturday because of snow cancellations, the two teams played a back-and-forth first half, which ended with Huntingtown leading by a single point at 23-22.

However, Huntingtown steadily pulled away during the second half and advanced with a 65-54 win over the Seahawks. Tyree Henry led Decatur with 15 points while Jaquan Johnson added 13.

Despite their 9-14 final record, there is much to be hopeful about for the Seahawks. The team was young, but talented this year and showed obvious signs of growing pains throughout the long season, but with a returning nucleus and some talented players from the junior varsity that got a chance to move up late in the year, the future looks bright for Coach B.J. Johnson’s program.
