Decatur Wrestlers Sweep Three In Week

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team enjoyed a big week, sweeping three matches over Bennett, Cambridge-South Dorchester and Mardela.

Against Bennett last Friday, the Seahawks won 10 of 14 matches to cruise to the 51-18 win. Caleb Bourne got Decatur on the board with a win over Bennett’s Jamal King at 170. After Brandon Wooten fell at 182, Decatur’s Patrick Devenny beat Jordan Mills at 195. Ean Spencer beat Bennett’s Richardo Bravo at 220, but Gavin Payne fell to Loma Thomas at 285.

Josh Lawson started a run of three straight for Decatur with a win ovr Eddie Bailey at 106. Jeremy Danner kept it going at 113 with a win over Tanner Farro and Thomas Scafone made it three in a row with a win over Michael Edwards at 120. After a Decatur loss at 126, Andy McKahan got the Seahawks back in the win column with a win over Demetrios Hawkins at 132. After a loss at 138, Decatur swept the last three matches as Max Pyles won at 145, Tyler Vansice won at 152 and Brett Kim won at 160.

In a dual meet on Monday, Decatur won its first nine matches in a 58-18 win over Cambridge-South Dorchester. Jeremy Danner beat Christian James at 106, Josh Lawson beat Zachary Peters at 113, Thomas Scafone beat Trequan Prattis at 120, Andrew McKahan beat Gavin Garcia at 126, Jeremiah Purnell won by forfeit at 132, Max Pyles beat Cullen Cannon at 138, Brandon McKenzie won by forfeit at 145, Tyler Vansice beat Caleb Crain at 152 and Brett Kim beat Harrison Spies at 160. After Cambridge-South Dorchester rallied with three straight wins at 170, 182 and 195, Decatur closed out the match with wins by Ean Spencer over Erik North at 220 and Gavin Payne over Alex Mohr at 285.

In the same dual meet on Monday, the Seahawks cruised past Mardela, 60-20. Lawson got Decatur on the board in the first match with a win over Joseph Cropper at 106. Thomas Scafone beat Brett Bramble at 120. Andy McKahan beat Khristian Sempritt at 126 and Jeremiah Purnell beat Zack Fisher at 132. After two straight wins by Mardela, Tyler Vansice got the Seahawks back in the win column with a victory over Parker Dewitt.

The Seahawks won the next three straight with wins by Brett Kim over Travis Harcum at 160, Caleb Bourne over Colby Pruitt at 170 and Brandon Wooten over Monroe Parker at 182. After a loss at 195, the Seahawks closed out the match with a win by Ean Spencer over Isiah Sanabria at 220 and Gavin Payne over Melvin Grayson at 285.
