Black Sea Bass Closure Announced

OCEAN CITY- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries Service last week announced a couple of notices regarding species important to the local recreational fishery including a closure of the recreational black sea bass fishery effective this week.

DNR Fisheries announced last week the recreational black sea bass fishery will be closed from January 1 through February 28. DNR Fisheries is in the process of establishing the season, catch limit and minimum size for the recreational black sea bass fishery for the remainder of 2015 and will announced any changes in the near future.

In addition, DNR Fisheries announced last week the season, catch limit and minimum size for summer flounder for 2015. The season will be open all year from January 1 through December 31. Recreational anglers will be able to keep up to four summer flounder per person per day in 2015 and the recreational minimum size for summer flounder will be 16 inches in all Maryland waters. The commercial hook-and-line minimum for summer flounder will be 14 inches, which will be the same for all summer flounder caught commercially on gear other than hook-and-line.
