Seahawk Wrestlers Lose To Poly In Opener

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team ran into a buzz saw in its opening match of the 2014-2015 campaign, falling to Poly, 47-9.

At 195, Decatur’s Brandon Wooten lost in a decision to Poly’s Justin Land, 10-4. Poly’s Mark Mullnack beat Patrick Devenny in a fall at 220. Poly’s Derek Reigle beat Decatur’s Ean Spencer by fall at 285. In the 106 weight class, Austin Price of Poly downed Decatur’s Josh Lawson by decision.

Decatur’s Robert Kaminski lost a decision to Poly’s Spenser Hahn at 113. In the 120 class, Iosif Drane of Poly won a decision over Decatur’s Drew Baker. Kody Stevens of Poly then beat Decatur’s Andy McKahan in a narrow 3-2 decision at 132. Decatur’s Joseph Rodriguez lost a decision to Andrew Schmeusser at 126.

Decatur’s Ben Haines fell to Poly’s Josh Price in a fall at 138. In the 145 class, Jeremiah Purnell of Decatur lost to Poly’s Nathan Fairbanks in a narrow decision. Decatur’s Tyler Vansice finally got the Seahawks on the board in the 152 bout with a 6-4 decision over Poly’s Avery Mayan. At 160, Poly’s Jaden McCove won a decision over Decatur’s Brandon McKenzie. Decatur’s Brett Kim fell to Poly’s Austin Rains at 170. Decatur’s Gus Esham won at 182 to close out the meet.
