Decatur Girls Sweep Two On Road

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity basketball team won a couple of road games this week, beating Easton, 63-39, on Monday before edging Pocomoke, 40-36, in a tight game on Tuesday.

The Seahawks cruised past the Easton Warriors, 63-39, on Monday on the road. Dayona Godwin led Decatur with 22 points, while Ally Beck and Marina Jones each grabbed six rebounds. For Godwin, the 22 points inched her closer to the 1,000 career mark, but her assault on the milestone would have to wait.

Godwin sprained her ankle in the win over Easton and was not available for Tuesday’s showdown with county rival Pocomoke. Without Godwin, the Seahawks tightened up on defense and spread the ball around and outlasted the Warriors, 40-36, in a low-scoring game.

Decatur led for much of the contest, but Pocomoke would not go quietly and rode a 14-point run to cut the lead to just three points, 32-29, in the fourth. The Seahawks made enough big plays down the stretch to outlast the Warriors, 40-36.
