Fall Flag Football Playoffs Winding Down

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Fall Flag Football League is coming down to an exciting finish as just three teams now remain alive for the championship after another round of playoff games this week.

In the winner’s bracket semifinal this week, Kirby’s Red Onion defeated the Bull Assassins, 34-6, to advance to the championship game. The Bull Assassins then dropped to the loser’s bracket where they will face the Greene Turtle on Monday. The winner of that game will move on to the championship against the Bull Assassins, but would have to win twice to claim the title. All of those games will be played on Monday.

In one of the semifinal games this week, Kirby’s Red Onion defeated the Greene Turtle, 21-20. After trailing 14-12, the Turtle scored twice on a touchdown run by Bart Talbert and a touchdown pass from Talbert to Dan Kauffman to take a 20-14 lead. However, Kirby’s edged the Turtle late on a touchdown pass from Tim Velasco to Justin Fiedler and the extra point was good as the Red Onion advanced with the 21-20 win.

In another semifinal game, the Bull Assassins got by Eastside Mafia with a 28-8 win. The Assassins jumped out to a 22-0 lead on three touchdown passes from Charlie McCaffrey to John Jester. Eastside cut the lead to 22-8 with a touchdown pass from Ray Taranto to D.J. Johnson. The Assassins sealed the deal with another touchdown pass from McCaffrey to Kyle Swayngim and advanced with the 28-8 win.
