Seahawks Close Out Season With 41-8 Win

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team closed out its 2014 campaign on a high note, routing county rival Snow Hill, 41-8, last week in the traditional season finale.

Decatur had a tough season, collecting only two wins against eight defeats, but the Seahawks took some solace in an impressive win over Snow Hill in their final game last Friday. Decatur left nothing to chance and led, 34-0, at the half. A second half touchdown increased the lead to 41-0 and Snow Hill added a late score to close it out at 41-8. Quarterback Justin Meekins ran for one touchdown and threw for three more to lead the Seahawks. R.J. Hayman caught two touchdown passes and Sam Coates ran for one touchdown and caught a TD pass.

With the win, the Seahawks closed out the season with a 2-8 mark, although at time they played much better than their final record indicated. They lost four games by a touchdown or less, including a heartbreaker to Easton, 34-33, back on October 3. Throughout the season, Decatur had difficulty piecing together consistent games, or even halves of games. In the end, however, the Seahawks always played tough until the end and despite their record should be proud of their season.
