Lower Shore Represented On Heisman List

BERLIN- The Lower Shore was well represented on the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program list of state finalists reached this week with several local students earning the prestigious honor.

Since 1994, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program has honored the nation’s top high school senior athletes from all over the country, starting with state lists and then winnowing them down to regional finalists and ultimately national finalists, who are invited to a special presentation in December covered nationally by ESPN. The leadership award nominees are well-round student athletes who excel in learning, performing and leading in the classroom, on the playing fields and in their communities.

Like its namesake, the Heisman Memorial Trophy, the Wendy’s program believes in the pursuit of athletic and academic excellence. In addition to honoring student accomplishments, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program inspires all high school students to pursue their higher education goals. The program honors the achievements of exceptional students and provides them with a platform for continued growth and success. The High School Heisman program makes it possible for the students to take advantage of new opportunities and ensures they are recognized for a job well done.

Every year, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program and the Heisman Memorial Trophy team up to recognize the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors. The culmination of the process takes place in December in conjunction with the National Heisman Trophy presentation during Heisman weekend in New York City and the event is highlighted on ESPN.

Several Lower Shore standouts made the list for Maryland when it was announced this week. Jillian Petito from Stephen Decatur, James Petrara from Worcester Prep and George Lawrence from Snow Hill made the state list from Worcester. Wicomico County is represented on the list by Aspen Coady and Brett Miles from Wicomico High, Daniel Gregory and Alexandra O’Leary from Bennett and Morgan McAllister from Parkside.
