Seahawks Scalped By Indians, 40-12

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s modest one-game winning streak was short-lived after the Seahawks fell to Wicomico, 40-12, last Thursday.

Two weeks ago, the Seahawks beat North Caroline for their first win of the season and with four straight Bayside South teams to finish out the season, it appeared they might be able to improve on their 1-5 mark. However, Decatur lost the first of its four final games last Thursday to Wicomico after the Tribe scored 34 second half points.

For three quarters, the outcome could have gone either way, but the Indians reeled off four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away. Wicomico got on the board first with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Decatur answered with a Devin Daniels touchdown early in the second quarter to tie the game at 6-6, which is how the first half would end.

Wicomico got a rushing touchdown in the third quarter to take a 13-6 lead, but the game was still very much in the balance.

However, the Indians got on a roll in the fourth and never looked back, scoring four touchdowns all on the ground to pull away. After the Indians’ first three touchdowns in the third increased their lead to 33-6, Decatur pulled closer on a rushing touchdown by Same Coates to cut the lead to 33-12. Wicomico added a late score to close out the 40-12 win.

The Seahawks face Bennett on the road on Saturday and will take on Parkside on the road next Thursday. Decatur will finish the regular season with a traditional finale against county rival Snow Hill at home on November 7.
