Lower Shore Teams Earn High Seeds In States

BERLIN- The state playoff brackets were released this week with Decatur and many of the Lower Shore fall sports teams earning high seeds in their respective tournaments.

In the 3A-South-Section I region, the Decatur boys’ varsity soccer team earned a number-4 seed and will face fifth-seeded Northeast at home this afternoon. Huntingtown is the top seed in the region and will face the winner of the first round game between Bennett (3) and Northern (2).

In the 2A-East region, Parkside’s boys earned a second seed and a first round bye. The Rams will face the winner of the first-round match between Kent Island (3) and Wicomico (6). Easton is the top seed in the region and will face the winner of the first-round match between North Caroline (4) and Queen Anne’s (5). In the 1A-East, Pocomoke is the top seed and will face the winner of the first-round match between Snow Hill and Washington. Crisfield and Mardela make up the other side of the 1A-East Section II bracket.

In the girls’ 3A-South bracket, Decatur earned the top seed and a first round bye. The Seahawks will face the winner of the first-round match between Bennett (4) and Northeast (5). Huntingtown in southern Maryland is the second-seed in Decatur’s sectional.

In the girls’ 2A-East sectional, Queen Anne’s is the top seed and will face the winner of the first round match between Kent Island and North Caroline. Parkside is the second seed in the bracket and also earned a first-round bye. The Rams will face the winner of the first round match between Easton and Wicomico. In the girls’ 1A-East region, Snow Hill is the top seed and will face North Dorchester in the second round. Cambridge-South Dorchester and Mardela make up the other side of the bracket in the 1A-East.

In field hockey, Decatur is the number-four seed in the 2A-South and will face top-seeded Kent Island. Parkside is the second seed and will face Queen Anne’s in the other match. In the 1A-East, Pocomoke earned the top seed and will have two byes to reach the sectional championship. The Warriors will face the winner of the first round match between Crisfield and Washington.
