BERLIN- The Stephen Decatur varsity golf team’s remarkable season continued this week with a District 8 championship in Cambridge and a secured berth in the state championship tournament late this month.

The Seahawks finished the regular season unbeaten with a perfect 9-0 mark in the Bayside Conference. Along the way, they set new school and conference records in back-to-back matches and cruised through their regular season schedule. On Tuesday, it was business as usual in the District 8 championship, which is essentially the quarterfinal match for a possible state championship, at the River Marsh Golf Club at the Hyatt in Cambridge.

A total of 18 teams from across the Eastern Shore battled strong winds and the tough course at River Marsh. When it was all said and done, Decatur emerged as the District 8 championship with a team score of 318. Bennett was second with a team score of 349, while Easton was third with a team score of 351.

With the win, Decatur became the only team in District 8 to qualify for states. Five players from other schools qualified individually. The Seahawks collected some individual honors at the district tournament in Cambridge on Tuesday. Danny Parker shot a tournament-low 77 to win the male individual championship. Delaney Iacona shot a 78 to win the female championship. Brooks Holloway shot an 81 for Decatur, while Matt Kristick and Matt Kinsey each shot an 82.
