SALISBURY — Ruth Farlow McLaurin, “Ruthie,” 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at the Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Norman Edward Whitman and Evelyn Hope Phipps Whitman. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elmer Thorne Farlow in 1979, and Shep McLaurin in 2012.

She is survived by her children, Edward Farlow and his wife Brenda of Acworth, Ga., Dean Farlow and his wife Cathy of Berlin, and Dayna Farlow and her husband Dan Weldon of Des Moines, Wash. She was preceded in death by her daughter Debra Farlow Moore in 2014.

Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Kristi Averill, Nicole Chamberlain, David Farlow and Jeremy Farlow. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Derek Averill, Adrianna Farlow, Tabatha Farlow, Ethan Chamberlain and Owen Chamberlain. Her brother, Frederick Eugene Whitman of Tampa, Fla., and two sisters, Amy Rae Stonemark of Milwaukee, Wis., and Evelyn Elise Angel and her husband Max of Ocean City, are also surviving. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Edward Whitman. She is also survived by two devoted caregivers, Dottie Chapman and Anna Brown.

Ruthie was a member of the Clermont First Baptist Church and formerly of the Berlin First Baptist Church. She had been active as a Girl Scout leader and was a charter member of the International Order of Rainbow Girls in Berlin, a member of the Ocean City Marlin Club Auxiliary, former president of the Stephen Decatur High School Band Association, and the Kings Ridge Quilters Club in Clermont, Fla. She had been an owner and operator of the Delmarva Sports Center and had also worked at the Flamingo Motel in Ocean City for many years.

A funeral service was held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 613 William Street in Berlin. Friends called at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin.

In lieu of flowers, Ruthie has requested that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Berlin, 613 William St. Berlin Md. 21811 or to the First Baptist Church of Clermont, 498 W. Montrose, Clermont Fla. 34711.

ELLICOTT CITY — Catherine C. Kervitsky, age 86, of Ocean City and formerly of Elysburg, Pa., passed on to live with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 at Encore At Turf Valley in Ellicott City, Md.

She was born in Kulpmont, Pa. and was the daughter of the late Flory and Mildred (D’Alexander) Guarna.

She had been a cashier for CVS and a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City and the Ocean City Senior Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Benner of Lufkin, Texas and Mary Matthews and her husband Mark of Columbia, Md.; two brothers, Flory Guarno and Frank Warno; three sisters, Theresa Joyce, Phyllis Clark and Maria Ritzman; five grandchildren, Shannon Benner, Bonnie Steen (Sam), Todd Benner, Amanda Matthews and Rebecca Matthews; and two great grandchildren, Addison Benner and Jett Steen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kervitsky; a brother, Joseph Warner; and a sister, Rose Warno.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, Sept. 22 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Ocean City with Father John Lunness officiating.

OCEAN CITY — On Sept. 27, 2014, Jacob “Jake the Snake” Andrew Carpenter, of Ocean City passed away.

He was the beloved son of Eve Slocum and the late Jim Carpenter; step son of Charlie Lipsey; dear brother of Ellen Ruby, Charlie Lipsey, Hailey Lipsey and Joel Lipsey; grandson of Amba Sargent; loving nephew of Dawn Tompkins and Nanette Mittermeier; and uncle of Megan Ruby. He is slso survived by many other loving relatives and friends.
