Mallards Improve to 3-0 On Young Season

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s girls’ varsity soccer team improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 6-2 win over Salisbury Christian on Tuesday.

The Mallards opened the season last week with a 2-1 win over Salisbury School. Last Friday, the Worcester girls built on that early momentum with a 4-1 win over Gunston. Laura Issel, Madison Bescak, Maggie Coutu and Kaylee Dickerson all scored goals for Worcester in the win over Gunston.

On Tuesday, the Mallards got up early on Salisbury Christian, withstood a comeback attempt and pulled away for the 6-2 win. Worcester led 2-0 early, but Salisbury Christian scored to cut the lead to 2-1. The Mallards added another goal just before the half to take a 3-1 lead into intermission, then pulled away for good in the second half. Worcester got two goals from Dickerson, and single goals from Julia D’Antonio and Coutu to secure the win and improve to 3-0 on the season. The Mallards will face old rival Saints Peter and Paul next week in what will likely be their first major test in the 2014 campaign.
