Decatur Girls Remain Unbeaten With 8-0 Rout

BERLIN-Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity soccer team stayed on a big roll this week, blanking visiting Mardela, 8-0, on Tuesday to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Jillian Petito continues to be the catalyst on offense for the Seahawks and turned in her third multi-goal game out of the first four for Decatur. On Tuesday, just about everybody got into the act as the Seahawks routed Mardela, 8-0. Petito scored three goals and Payton VanKirk, Lexi VanKirk, Lexi McDonough, Brigitte Ardis and Payton Townsend added single goals.

Last Friday, the Seahawks blanked Kent Island, 7-0. Decatur got two goals from Petito and single goals from Rachel Bourne, Erin Smith, Payton VanKirk, Allie Shumate and Mallory Vara. Against Queen Anne’s last week, Decatur won 4-1 behind three goals from Petito and a single goal by Lexi VanKirk. In the season opener against Easton, Petito scored the lone goal on an assist by Payton VanKirk in the 1-0 win.
