OCEAN CITY — Heavy surf conditions and rough currents contributed to a busy Wednesday for Ocean City emergency responders, including an incident involving a disabled 40-foot boat pinned against the support structure for the Route 50 Bridge.

A little after noon on Wednesday, a 40-foot vessel lost power and steering and became disabled in the strong currents around the bridge. The current pushed the vessel into the bridge support structure and actually pinned the boat against the span about two support structures west of the channel.

The Ocean City Fire Boat was in the area and responded and was able to pull the disabled 40-footer away from the bridge structure before it could cause any more damage to the vessel or the span. Tow Boat U.S. responded and towed the vessel into Sunset Marina in West Ocean City. No injuries were reported and no damages to the bridge have been reported. The condition of the vessel is not known.
