Berlin 9-10 Team Hits Wall In Regionals

BERLIN- The Berlin Little League 9-10 team hit a wall this week in the Mid-Atlantic region tournament this week, dropping three straight tough losses to near the end of what was otherwise a remarkable run this summer.

The 9-10 team breezed through the District 8 tournament, sweeping six straight to capture the title. During the district tournament, the Berlin 9-10 team went 6-0 while outscoring its opponents by a combined score of 80-7. In the Maryland tournament, Berlin continued its domination, going unbeaten in four games to breeze to the state title. In the state tournament, Berlin’s 9-10 team outscored its opponents by a combined 54-14 and beat Valley, 9-4, in the state championship game.

Through the district and state tournaments, Berlin was perfect with a 10-0 mark and reached the Mid-Atlantic Regional Little League Tournament in Cranston, R.I. that began last weekend. However, Berlin’s magical run, following a similar track as their big brothers, literally in some cases, the Berlin Intermediate team, to a potential regional championship.

However, the 9-10 team apparently ran out of gas but no heart this week in the Mid-Atlantic regional tournament in Rhode Island, dropping its first three contests by a combined 49-3. Berlin dropped its opener to New Jersey, 10-1, on Sunday. On Tuesday, Berlin fell to Delaware, 13-1, and on Wednesday, the local team was ambushed by New York, 16-1. The 9-10 team played Pennsylvania on Thursday in the final game of pool play.
