Bass Club Tourney A Huge Success

SNOW HILL- The Wicomico Bass Club’s annual tournament last week for the benefit of the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program was a huge success with dozens of toys collected and dozens more healthy largemouth bass caught and released.

Over 30 anglers from Maryland and Delaware competed in the annual tournament along the Pocomoke River near Snow Hill last week including anglers from five different area bass clubs. Each angler donated a new toy or piece of fishing equipment to the USMC Toys for Tots program and its Get More Kids Fishing program.

The participating anglers caught and released over 150 pounds of healthy largemouth bass, the largest of which was nearly five pounds. As a thank you for the support, the Wicomico Bass Club awarded each angler with a door prize including gift certificates to area restaurants and other products and services.

“Not only did we gather over 60 toys, gifts and fishing essentials for kids, but the number and size of the bass catch shows promise for the overall health of the river,” said club president Wayne Gorrow.
