Decatur Golf Tournament a Huge Success

BERLIN- The 15th Annual Stephen Decatur Athletic Boosters golf tournament on Tuesday was a huge success with a maxed out field of golfers on a picture-perfect afternoon and a record amount of funds raised for the school’s athletic programs.

A record 144 golfers participated on the annual tournament at Eagle’s Landing on Tuesday and over $29,000 was raised for the various sports programs at Decatur. After a brief speech and the introduction of the school’s coaches, three skydivers dropped down in and around the first tee to deliver a special prize to one of the participants.

While the event was all about raising money for the Decatur sports programs and the camaraderie and fun, the competition on the course was no less important. For the record, first-place net went to the foursome of Law Adkins, Brad Taylor, Jim Ferrell and Linwood Harman. Second-place net went to Buzz Taylor, Rick Wells, Bill Venable and Ed Horner. Third-place net went to Scott Dietz, Jeremy Hoffman, Brian Hoffman and Matt Gordon. Fourth-place net went to Ron Wist, Tim Remenapp, Marc Wist and James Rosi. Fifth-place net went to Jim Flaig, T.P. Simons, Bob Dowling and Nikki Rafer.

First-place gross went to the foursome including Dan Parker, Danny Parker, Jr., Evan Hileman and Mitch Wyatt. Second-place gross went to Don Furbay, Alex Rusky, Nolan Dove and Scot Dailey. Third-place gross went to Joe Iacona, Delaney Iacona, Andrew Urban and Brooks Holloway.

Law Adkins was closest to the pin on the 5th hole, Mike Sullivan and closest to the pin on the 8th hole, Chris Pigott was closest to the pin on the 12th and Riley Abbott was closest to the pin on the 17th. Nikki Rafer had the ladies’ longest drive on the first hole, while Joe Iacona had the men’s longest drive on the third hole. The ladies’ straightest drive went to Cheryl Sassear, while Jeff Zukenberg had the men’s straightest drive.
