OCEAN CITY- Local surfer Simon Hetrick last week won two events and placed in one other in the Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) Mid-Atlantic Regionals in South Carolina and also brought home the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award.
Hetrick was one of a handful of ESA-Delmarva surfers to make the trip to Folly Beach, S.C. last weekend to compete in the Mid-Atlantic regionals and came home with his share of trophies and awards. Hetrick won both the boys’ shortboard and the menehune bodyboard and also placed third in the menehune longboard. Hetrick was also honored with the Sportsmanship Award during the tournament.
Local ESA Director Chris Makibbin also turned in a strong performance at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals, finishing first in the open bodyboard event and third in the Master’s Longboard finals. Other local surfers who competed in the tournament included Shane Lally, Dylan Skelley, Ben Skelley and Will Kelleher.
