Worcester Boys Sweep Three Tough Games

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team ended a two-game losing skid with a big week including three wins over tough opponents.

The Mallards were scuffling a little with back-to-back losses to LaSalle and Calverton to drop back to .500, but came back with a vengeance with three big wins in a row this week to improve to 7-4 on the season. Last Thursday, Worcester beat Bishop McNamara, 20-5, on the road and followed that up with a narrow 13-12 win over Archmere on the road last Saturday. The Mallards were back in action on Monday with a road game against Indian River and thrashed the Indians, 17-6.

Against Bishop McNamara last Thursday, Luke Payne led the Mallards with five goals. Thomas Buas scored four goals and dished out an assist. Wyatt Richins scored three goals and had two assists, and Staten Whaley and Same Deeley each scored a goal. Ross Dickerson got the Mallards’ offense rolling, winning 20 of 21 face-offs and also scored a goal and dished out an assist.

Against Indian River on Monday, Richins scored a game-high seven goals and added three assists. Deeley scored six goals and dished out an assist. Jack Marshall scored three times and handed out two assists, and Payne contributed two assists. Against Indian River on Monday, Richins led the Mallards with seven goals and three assists, while Deeley scored six goals and dished out one assist. Marshall scored three goals and two assists, while Payne had two assists. Isaiah Nsah was outstanding in the net, recording 20 saves.

The Worcester boys face Gunston at home on Friday for Senior Day and are scheduled to face Delmar on Saturday in the regular season finale before starting the conference playoffs next week.
