Around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Berlin Fire Department received a call about a fire in the downtown area along Main Street. Crews responded from Berlin, Ocean City, Showell and Ocean Pines. It is believed the fire began in the hood system of the Si’Culi restaurant on Main Street and fire crews could be seen on the roof of the building and on the exterior rear of the building with heavy smoke coming from a duct system at the restaurant. Firefighters were seen going through the neighboring buildings including Victorian Charm on the corner and Culver’s Antiques and other businesses on the opposite side. The entire downtown area was closed off by fire trucks and hundreds of spectators and visitors are lining the roped off areas to watch the activity on an otherwise picture-perfect April day. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage was not known as of late Thursday afternoon.
